World Memory Championships 2008 Schedule

Thursday 23rd October – Registration Desk Open

Press and television interviews 

7.00pm Festival of the Mind and World Memory Championships Opening Ceremony and Press Briefing.

Competitors, arbiters and members of the public are invited to attend.


Competition Day One - Friday 24th October

8.30am - 9.00am Competitors and Arbiters arrive 

9.00am Welcome 

9.20am Competitors must be at their tables ready to compete. 

9.30am EVENT ONE - Abstract Images 15 minute memorisation (9.30am to 9.45am)

Collection / handing out of papers 

9.50am 30 minute recall time (9.50am to 10.20am) 

10.30am EVENT TWO Binary Numbers 30 minute memorisation (10.30am to 11.00am)

Collection / Handing out of papers

11.05 - 12.05 60 minute recall time. 

12.05 to 1.30pm LUNCH 

1.30pm Announcement of Scores so far. 

1.40pm Hand out papers 

1.45pm EVENT THREE - One Hour Number One hour memorisation (1.45pm to 2.45pm)

Collection / Handing out of papers 

2.50pm to 4.50pm Two Hour recall time (2.50pm to 4.50pm) 

4.50pm End of Day one 


DAY TWO of Competition – Saturday 25th October

9.00am Welcome. Announcement of scores so far. 

9.20am Competitors must be at their tables and ready to compete

9.30am EVENT FOUR - Names and Faces 15 minute memorisation (9.30am - 9.45am) 

9.45am Collection / handing out papers 

9.50am 30 minute recall (9.50am - 10.20am) 

10.30am EVENT FIVE - Speed Numbers Trial one - 5 minute memorisation (10.30am - 10.35am)

11.00am Announcement of Speed Number Scores 

11.15 Speed Numbers -Trial 2 5 minute memorisation (11.05am - 11.10am)

11.50am EVENT SIX - Historic and Future Dates 5 minute memorisation ( 11.50am - 11.55am)

Collecting and handing out papers 

12.00pm - 12.15pm 15 minute recall 

12.15am - 1.30pm LUNCH 

1.30pm Announcement of scores so far

1.45pm EVENT SEVEN - One Hour Cards One hour memorisation (1.45pm - 2.45pm)

2.45pm Collection of packs of cards. Competitors must clearly label their packs

3.00pm - 5.00pm 2 hour recall 

5.00pm End of Day Two 


DAY THREE of Competition – Sunday 26th October

9.00am Welcome. Announcement of Scores so far. 

9.20 am Competitors must be at their tables and ready to compete 

9.30am EVENT EIGHT - Random Words 15 minute memorisation (9.30am - 9.45am)

9.45am Collecting and handing out papers 

9.50am 30 minute recall ( 9.50am - 10.20am) 

10.30am EVENT NINE - Spoken Number ENGLISH 100 seconds memorisation

5 minute recall 

Announcement of spoken number scores 

Spoken Number - 200 seconds memorisation ENGLISH 

15 minute recall 

12.00pm - 1.30pm LUNCH

EVENT TEN - Speed Cards - Group One

1.45pm - 1.50pm 5 minute memorisation
